Below are mentioned some materials which are most popularly used in the construction of a shag area rug:
- Chenille: – this fabric is usually cotton but sometimes may also contain rayon, acrylic, polyester and olefin too. Being soft by nature, chenille is used in manufacturing of blankets and throws.
- Flokati: – this fabric is made up of 100% woolen fibers. Conventionally, these fibers are available in gray, white and off-white shades but can be dyed into any interesting color shade.
- Leather: – leather strips are combined with a sturdy backing material to create shag rug. This type of rug is also more expensive than other competitive rugs. Most widely demanded color for these leather rugs is ‘hot pink’.
- Felted: – this fabric is also constituted of woolen fibers which are made compact and tight enough so as to increase the rug’s softness. This process, sometimes, may also incorporate the task of heating and moisturizing too, so as to enhance the softness even further.
